SIP: The Protocol of Choice for Multimedia Applications

SIP offers a standards-based solution to providing converged voice and multimedia communications over any IP-based network – mobile, wireline, or cable, corporate or home. This allows a user to manage home and office phones, emails, conferencing, or messaging through one intelligent interface. Similar to how the web lets people access information regardless of the underlying network and hosted operating system, SIP delivers application services in a network-agnostic way. The SIP protocol routes a session request according to the receiver’s service preferences, as well as current presence and location. “Presence” may be indicated by “away from computer,” “out of office,” “on the phone,” or “online.” The location can be any network access point – home, office, or local cafe.

A VoIP provider using a SIP call server can perform easy, low-cost software-based setup of all services from simple phone calls to time-based call forwarding, voice-enriched e-commerce, click-to-dial, collaborative multimedia conference sessions, and smart call center routing. Quality of Service (QoS) is supported within the SIP protocol, giving network operators the tools necessary to engineer the quality of the subscriber experience.

SIP Commander: Streamlined, Reliable Provisioning

To help you maximize market and revenue opportunities, SIP Commander supports a wide variety of residential and business MTAs. The software incorporates exceptional redundancy and load-balancing capabilities to ensure subscribers get online during busy peak periods.

SIP Commander cuts administrative costs by using setup templates to reduce the complexity of provisioning SIP endpoints/MTAs from multiple vendors. Because protocol standards are still evolving, each MTA vendor has created their own configuration file format and uses different encryption algorithms to encode the files. SIP Commander eliminates the time-consuming task of manually producing these files through its unique dynamic configuration capability, including telephone numbers and other unique identifiers.
