What can DPoE offer Cable?

I’ve written before about how cable providers are preparing DOCSIS 3.1, but this isn’t the only new standard that will apply to MSOs. A relatively new standard, DOCSIS Provisioning over EPON (DPoE), is an access technology that gives cable operators the opportunity to deploy DOCSIS over fiber by simplifying integration with existing back end systems.

DOCSIS 3.1: Where to Next?

DOCSIS 3.1 promises a lot in terms of upstream speeds and could trigger the movement of more cable operators into commercial services. It also almost guarantees the future of IP applications — CED Magazine calls IPTV “inevitable” for cable providers — but not immediately.

CableLabs and the Cloud

CableLabs Winter Conference — one of the cable industry’s biggest events in North America — is over for another year. While a number of topics dominated the event, this year the biggest eye-opener for me was the prevalence of “the cloud” in vendor discussions.
